Time Capsule wireless flakiness

Technology

I just don’t get why Apple can’t address core issues with some of their products. Don’t get me wrong, I am as religious about Apple products as the next zealot but sometimes I too have to throw my hands in the air and “give up”. Take for instance my latest debacle with the Time Capsule wireless flakiness. I use it to connect an iMac and two Macbook Pro’s to the Net and the wireless flakiness is just not something I can live with. If you have reached this post looking for answers on how to fix your own Airport Extreme or Time Capsule wireless flakiness, try these steps:

On your Mac:
Delete the following files from /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

  • com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
  • com.apple.network.identification.plist
  • NetworkInterfaces.plist

….reboot. The system will recreate all these files and hopefully you’ll have your issues resolved.

On your Airport Extreme/Time Capsule (via Airport Utility):

  • Change to WPA as your security mode
  • Don’t use Automatic channel selection, instead pick a channel between 1-4 or 9-11
  • Turn off Interference Robustness
  • Change Multi-cast rate to 2.2

Again, these steps have helped a “few” people. I am not one of them but I hope you are!
